Earth Day 2020 Activity Ideas

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day on the 22nd of April.

Earth Day is an annual global event that celebrates the environmental movement and raises awareness about pollution and ways to maintain a clean habitat. 

Earth Day 2020 is going to be a digital Earth Day.

Ms.Spain’s literacy group:

Continue to do:

•Spellbound everyday

•SNIP Booklets everyday

•If you can, pick a short book from OxfordOwl (instructions on how to use this are under the reading section on the home page of the school website) - read a few pages everyday and try have the book read by Friday. If you have a different book at home that you’d like to read that is fine too.

•At the end of the week - write a book review on the book you read. 

You can use the copy book that was delivered to you.

Make sure you have your title (name of the book) and date.

Try to write at least half a page, here are some sentence starters (these are just suggestions):

This book was written by ...

This book was about ...

At the start of the book ....

At the end of the story....

I liked/disliked this book because ...

My favorite part was when...

I liked this character because...

Some ways you can continue to keep active while at home!

• Go Noodle – Set up an account. There are plenty of activities to get the children moving - dance, movement skills, workouts as well mindfulness and educational videos.

HAPPY EASTER!!! 13th April – 17th April 2020

Hey guys, during the week of the 13^th of April, you will have no assigned written work! 

Here is an idea of some things you can do during the week of the 13^th of April.

1) EASTER CHALLENGES - Click on this link. - These are tasks that you can learn to do at home, that will be very helpful around the house. 

We're turning it into a challenge. Take a photo of yourself completing them and post them to Seesaw.

Some of these tasks you might already know how to do, so you're a step or two ahead, which is great!

2) BAKING - I've put together some yummy recipes I like making, that you don't need to use an oven to do!! You do need an adult to help though, as you'll need to melt and chop some ingredients!

3) Irish Sign Language Alphabet - I think this would be a very worthwhile use of your time when you're not in school. I learned Irish Sign Language for three years (I'm probably a bit rusty now!!), and would definitely recommend that you guys learn it. 

I'm attaching lots of resources to help you learn the ISL Alphabet. If you do learn it, I'd love if you recorded a video of yourself signing (not singing!;D) the alphabet and upload it to Seesaw.

4) Online Mandala Colouring – If you don't have any colours or colouring books at home, you can colour in online! If you’re using a laptop, you can go to the website https://colormandala.com/ . I had a lot of fun colouring online over the weekend!

If you're using another device, you can download the Colorify App, I was also using this, and liked it!

5) Art For Kids Hub – We used this once before in school, it’s a great YouTube Channel for teaching you how to draw lots of different things, there’s tutorials on how to draw Easter pictures as well as Fornite, Pokémon, Animals and loads more!!

6) Cosmic Kids Yoga - After all your hard work over the past few weeks, you might like to relax and try some Yoga. There's lots of different playlists and themes, including a playlist for yoga for older kids also!


7) Thanks to Ms O’ Donnell who made this Maths Trail (click here) that you can try at home! If anyone does it over Easter, let me know!!!
